BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Birmingham police officer was involved in a fatal shooting Thursday evening at the Days Inn off Highway 280, police say.
The officer is okay. Lt. Sean Edwards says a white male was shot and killed by the officer.
Edwards say they received a call of a suspicious man walking around the Days Inn parking lot armed with a handgun around 6:20 p.m. Thursday. He says officers responded and engaged with the suspect, who was armed. Edwards says the officers gave the suspect commands and he did not really comply, and officers were forced to shoot.
The investigation will be turned over to the State Bureau of Investigations.
