BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A Birmingham police officer is recovering after being shot in the arm late Thursday evening.
The shooting happened in the 400 block of Princeton Avenue. The officer was investigating a complaint about drugs at a home around 11:30 p.m., according to Lt. Bryan Shelton with Birmingham Police. That’s when an unknown individual or individuals shot into his car.
The suspect or suspects left in a vehicle, which police later found empty. Police were able to find two persons of interest who have been taken into custody.
Lt. Sean Edwards tells CBS 42 the officer was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say the officer has since been released from the hospital and is doing well.
Police are still searching for suspects in the area. They are urging people in the area around Tuscaloosa Avenue to stay inside their homes.
