MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — A north Alabama attorney will now serve on a court considering judicial ethics charges that could result in the removal of suspended Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore.

Attorney W. N. “Rocky” Watson of Fort Payne is replacing Opelika attorney John Denson on the Alabama Court of the Judiciary during the Moore case. Chief Judge Michael Joiner issued an order appointing Watson after Denson recused himself from the case.

Judicial investigators are asking the court to permanently remove Moore from office because of an order he issued about same-sex marriage. Moore was previously removed from office in 2003 because of his refusal to remove a Ten Commandments monument from the state judicial building.

A hearing in the current case is expected to start August 4th.
