(WIAT) — The International Anglican Communion has suspended the American Episcopal Church over its acceptance of same-sex marriage.
Anglican leaders made the decision Thursday during a meeting in Canterbury, England.
Episcopalians made the change in June of last year.
They voted to change church law to allow same-sex couples to get married and adopted new wedding rites.
The suspension means Episcopalians won’t be allowed to represent the Church of England’s international communion or participate in internal Anglican decisions.
